Refinery Terminal Fire Company (RTFC) provides valuable resources through the unique concept of ownership by its members, including, state of the art fire protection, prevention, inspection, hazard mitigation, state of the art training, and technical support services.
RTFC, also known as “Fire Company,” was established in 1948, in the wake of the Texas City, Texas disaster, and today is the largest non-profit industrial firefighting group in the United States. The Fire Company’s goal was to provide fire department services to The Port of Corpus Christi and the related refining and petrochemical port industries.
After completion of the training facility in August of 1995, RTFC applied and was granted a 501(c) (4) non-profit status from the IRS.
RTFC currently protects over 60 individual facilities owned by 13 different corporations. They operate as a “cooperative” company as the Fire Company is funded by its members

In-Plant Program History:
On 30 July 1995, RTFC implemented a full-time fire station at Lyondellbasell Chemical (previously Equistar) world-class, ethylene and olefins plant in Corpus Christi. A total of 15 fire professionals protect the plant and work RTFC’s standard 24-hour on / 48-hour off, three platoon system. Each five-person shift consists of 1 Captain, 1 Senior Firefighter / Driver Operator and 3 Firefighters.
On 20 May 1998, RTFC implemented a full-time fire station at CITGO’s Corpus Christi Refinery. A total of 15 fire professionals comprised of 3 Captains, 3 Senior Firefighters / Driver Operator and 9 Firefighters, working RTFC’s standard 24 hour on / 48 hour off, three platoon system, protect the plant.
On 20 May 2001, RTFC put into service a full-time fire station at Lyondellbasell Chemical Chocolate Bayou Refinery (previously Equistar Chocolate Bayou). A total of 18 fire professionals comprised of 3 Captains, 3 Senior Firefighters / Driver Operator and 12 Firefighters, working RTFC’s standard 24 hour on / 48 hour off, three platoon system, protect the plant. One chief officer oversaw and supervised the operations of the fire station. The Plant ceased operations in the fall of 2010 due to economic downturn.
On 30 June 2008, RTFC implemented a full-time fire station at Motiva (previously Flint Hills Resources) in Port Arthur, Texas. A total of 12 fire professionals protect the plant, working, RTFC’s standard 24 hour on / 48 hour off, three platoon system. 3 Captains, 3 Senior Firefighters / Driver Operators, 6 Firefighters, and one Duty Chief oversee and supervise the operations of the fire station.
In July 2013, RTFC signed a contract to man a full-time fire station at Mississippi Power Company in Meridian, Mississippi. A total of 15 fire professionals and one chief officer protect the facility. 1 Captain and 4 Firefighters staffed each of the three platoon system. The plant ceased operations in May 2017.
In August 2015, RTFC implemented a full-time fire station at Cheniere in Sabine Pass, Louisiana. A total of 21 fire professionals, 3 paramedics, and one chief officer protect the facility. 1 Captain, 6 Firefighters, and 1 Paramedic staff each of the three platoon system.
In May 2018, RTFC implemented a full-time fire station at Cheniere in Corpus Christi. A total of 18 fire professionals and one chief officer protect the facility. 1 Captain and 5 Firefighters staff each of the three platoon system.
